What you'll learn
How to create and configure custom promotional discount codes for prospective members.
How to apply discounts to joining fees, initial upfront fees, or recurring membership subscriptions.
When should I use this?
Use this feature when setting up promotional signup incentives, such as 50% off the first month's subscription or waived joining fees for new members.
Key Logic: Configuring subscription discounts enables prospective members to redeem promotional codes during onboarding, helping drive new membership sales while maintaining precise control over discount caps and validity periods.
Before you start
Ensure you have administrative permissions to access Settings and Membership configurations within EMS.
Confirm the property name, discount structures (percentage or fixed amount), and validity dates before creating the discount profile.
Step-by-step
Log into your EMS account using your administrative credentials. From the main navigation menu, select Settings.
Under the Membership section in the Settings menu, select Subscription Discounts. This section displays all active and inactive promotional codes created for your properties.
Click the New Subscription Discount button to initiate the setup wizard.
Click the plus icon (+) next to your property name to display the configuration fields for that specific location.
Enter a clear title in the Name field (e.g., 50% Off First Month) and provide a brief description outlining the promotion's purpose for internal reference.
Select the Active checkbox if you want the discount code to be available for immediate use during member signups.
Specify the Validity Period start and end dates to restrict when this promotional code can be applied during registration.
Click Settings and ensure your target property is selected from the properties list to map the discount to the correct location ledger.
Tick the checkbox corresponding to the exact fee structure you wish to discount:
Membership Joining Fee
Membership Initial Fee
Membership Subscriptions
Warning: Ensure you tick only the relevant fee type for your promotion. For instance, selecting Membership Subscriptions when you intend to discount the Membership Joining Fee will incorrectly apply the reduction to recurring fees rather than the upfront charge.
Set your monetary limits by entering either a maximum percentage value or a maximum fixed amount cap for the discount. Once configured, click Save.
Best Practice
Clear Descriptions: Use explicit names and internal notes so front-of-house staff can easily select the correct promotional reason during manual signups.
Cap Controls: Always set a maximum percentage or fixed amount cap to prevent unintended over-discounting on higher-tier membership packages.
