Ecommerce Platform | How to connect to stripe (payment gateway)

What is Stripe?

Stripe is a payment gateway that is needed in order for your platform to go live.

In order to take online payments and receive them, you’ll need to connect to the payment gateway stripe. You can connect to an existing account if you already have one or create a completely new one.

Connecting to Stripe

  • Login to the ecommerce platform dashboard https://admin.onejourney.travel/ (If you haven’t yet been set up as a user, please ask your Project Manager or Support team to set you up).

  • Once successfully logged in you will be presented with your dashboard where you can see the status of the payment gateway and whether this is connected or not.

  • If this is not connected then please click the ‘connect stripe account’ button.

    • This will then direct you to Stripe and begin by asking for your email.

    • If you already have an existing Stripe account then you can use the same email that is registered against that account and just connect.

  • If you are creating a new account then please enter a different email as Stripe will only allow one email per account.

  • You’ll need to fill out some company information when creating a new account and also verify your identity.

    • Please make sure you do this when creating a new account as Stripe will not allow you to take payments until your identity has been verified, this is for security purposes and doesn’t take long.

  • When your account has been successfully created and connected you’ll be directed back to the ecommerce platform dashboard where the status should now be ‘connected’.

  • The best way to test this connection further is by placing an order on the front end and then refunding this in the dashboard.

Recommendations

Make sure that the login to the stripe account is shared/known by a number of people in the business. This is because now and then, Stripe will ask you to re-verify your identity or to provide further documentation - this is for security purposes only.

If only one individual knows the login and has left the business by the time Stripe is asking for re-verification then you’ll need to contact the Stripe support team for access to the account which can take several days to resolve.
