Gifted – How to Create a Spend-Threshold Reward

⏱️ Estimated time: 5 minutes

👤 Role: Marketing Teams, E-commerce Managers, Platform Administrators

What you'll learn

  1. How to configure spend-threshold rewards that automatically add a free bonus voucher to qualifying guest baskets.
  2. How to set validity dates, expiry parameters, and spend requirements for promotional offers.
  3. How to manage display and promotion settings, including public landing pages and secret offers.

When should I use this?

Use this guide when you want to run promotional campaigns designed to increase average order values (for example, "Spend £150 or more and receive a complimentary £20 spa voucher").
Idea
Key Logic: Spend-threshold rewards automatically reward guests once their net basket total reaches a designated threshold. Unlike standard percentage discounts, these rewards issue a separate bonus voucher alongside the guest's primary purchase, helping drive incremental spend while incentivising future visits to your property.

Before you start

  1. Ensure you have administrative access to your Gifted portal.
  2. Ensure the voucher you plan to issue as a free reward has already been created, published, and configured with optionless settings, unlimited stock, and a positive price.
  3. Prepare high-quality campaign images and specific promotional terms and conditions.

Step-by-step

1. Access the offer creation screen

  1. Log in to your Gifted platform account.
  2. Navigate to the Offers or Promotions section within the main menu.
  3. Click Create Offer or Add New Offer to launch the setup page.

2. Configure basic offer parameters

Define the core campaign details, schedule, and offer type.
  1. Name: Type a clear internal and external campaign title (e.g. "Winter Spend & Save").
  2. Start Date & Start Time: Select the exact calendar date and time (using the 15-minute interval drop-down list) for when the offer should go live.
  3. End Date & End Time: Select the exact date and time for when the promotional window closes.
  4. Type: Click the Type drop-down menu and select Spend-threshold reward.

3. Define the threshold and select the reward voucher

  1. Spend Threshold: Enter the minimum net basket spend required in pounds (£) for the guest to qualify for the free reward.
  2. Reward Voucher: Select the reward voucher from the drop-down list.
Info
Important Notice: The reward voucher must be configured as an optionless product with unlimited stock and a positive price. Issued reward vouchers create a face-value financial liability for your hotel.

4. Set voucher validity and date rules

Define specific redemption limits for the bonus vouchers issued through this campaign.
  1. Voucher Start Date: (Optional) Set a fixed future start date for all issued reward vouchers. Guests will not be able to redeem their bonus voucher until this date. Leave blank to use the standard default start date.
  2. Voucher Expiry Date: (Optional) Set a fixed calendar expiry date for all issued vouchers. Leave blank to rely on the relative validity period.
  3. Validity Period: (Optional) Specify a validity duration in months for the issued vouchers. Leave blank or set to zero to default to the voucher's standard validity rules.

5. Input campaign content and display settings

Add promotional copy and adjust public visibility preferences across your storefront.
  1. Description: Enter details about the reward. This text appears on participating voucher product pages and on the main campaign landing page.
  2. Terms and Conditions: Add any specific rules or restrictions applying to the reward.

  3. Promoted: Toggle on if you want this offer to generate its own dedicated landing page with a direct link featured in your website's header navigation.
  4. Secret: Toggle on to hide the offer from public site navigation.
Info
Important Notice: Enabling Secret mode for a spend-threshold reward keeps the landing page private and hides the offer name from the checkout basket. The bonus reward will still be added automatically to qualifying baskets, but the campaign will not be actively advertised across the main site.
  1. Show Categories / Show Filters: Toggle these options on if you wish to allow guests to filter and view vouchers by category on the offer landing page.
  2. Image & Focal Point: Upload a campaign banner image (PNG or JPG) and select its alignment focal point (e.g. Center, Top Center).

6. Save your offer setup

Finalise the configuration and save your settings.
  1. Review all campaign parameters, dates, and reward assignments to ensure accuracy.
  2. Click Update Offer (or Create Offer) to save your configuration.

7. Select applicable vouchers

  1. Navigate to the Vouchers tab at the top of the offer setup page.

Warning
Important Notice: It is vital that you click Update Offer to save your progress in the previous step before navigating away to this new tab, or your initial settings will be lost.
  1. Select the specific vouchers you want this offer to be applicable to by ticking the corresponding boxes.
  2. Click Update Offer to save your selected vouchers and push your offer live.

Best practice

  1. Verify Reward Voucher Stock: Always ensure the selected reward voucher is set to unlimited stock so that valid customer checkouts are never blocked due to inventory limits.
  2. Factor in Financial Liabilities: Coordinate with your finance team when setting up spend-threshold campaigns, as free vouchers generate real face-value liabilities upon issuance.
  3. Test the Basket Threshold: Prior to launching publicly, visit your live storefront, build a test basket that meets the threshold, and verify that the bonus voucher populates correctly at checkout.
  4. Reach Out for Support: If you need a hand configuring your offers, the Journey Support Team is available via live chat on our support portal or at support@journey.travel.
