How to create a new retail brand within the EMS.
How to manage and deactivate existing brands.
Understanding the relationship between brands and product visibility.
Establishing brands is a foundational step in your retail setup. While Categories define what an item is, Brands define who made it.
Key Logic: Using Brands allows for granular filtering in your inventory reports and provides a better search experience for staff and customers. You should set these up before importing or creating your product list to ensure data consistency from the start.
Ensure you have administrative access to the Settings menu.
Have a list of brand names and optional descriptions ready.
Log into the EMS and head to the main Settings menu. From there, locate the Retail section and select Brands.
Once in the Brands menu, click the + Add New button located at the top of the interface to open the creation form.
Input the Name of your brand. You may also enter a Description; this is useful for internal tracking or providing more context about the brand's origin or quality.
Click Create Brand. The brand will now be active in your database and available for selection when you are creating or editing products.
To remove a brand from active use, return to the Brands menu and click on the specific brand name. Toggle the status to Inactive.
Warning: Before deactivating a brand, you must ensure that all products currently assigned to it are either re-assigned to a different brand or also marked as inactive. Failure to do so may cause filtering errors in your retail reports.
Consistency is Key: Stick to a naming convention (e.g., all caps or title case) to keep your filter lists looking professional.
Descriptions: Use the description field to note down supplier contact details or lead times associated with that specific brand for quick reference.
